I am old enough to remember seeing cars get hung up on those #40 rail tracks that went down El Camino Real - I also remember watching an old steam engine going across the old Ocean Shore Rail tracks San Jose Avenue before they removed those tracks.

Fun! No fences so there was easier crossing, back when people were trusted to look both ways.

This sounds like a good bus ! They had a loud , powerful motor to get up the city's steep hills and I rode on these buses . 370 of these were brought in 1969-70 and 150 rebuilt between 1984 -85 where they lasted another 15 years . Today's fleet of buses owned by Muni aren't half of what they were years ago .

YES! SF Muni with an 8v71 with Jakes and a low-geared VS-2. I rode these when I was younger. The sounds bring back awesome memories!

Any fishbowl bus by General Motors is the best of all besides the GM old look bus is also the best buses ever made and i do missed them in regular bus service. Especially in Los Angeles when it was SCRTD for me and as well Muni when i come to San Francisco to visit. 😊

I have to admit San Francisco has the most interesting streetcar lines in America. Beats my old hometown of NYC. No other place do I know had a dual trolley cable car for service on cable and trolley lines.

all that work with tunnels to north beach. i believe a Washington square/north beach station would make the whole price tag worthwhile. When this opens, the north beach crowd will probably show a bit less opposition. i realize the platforms are short. but gosh, the deep Chinatown station with just two escalators--one in each direction????? As anyone who rides public transit knows,,,, the frequency of broken escalators. I feel for the Chinatown station user the day when there is only one escalator with the other being repaired.

A "1970's bus ride"? No way. The cars and other vehicles are much newer than those that traveled the City in the 1970's. Also, notice the garbage and recycling toters that were non existent in the 70's. Also notice the street striping for bicycles on some of the roads and the bicyclist donning a helmet, which was uncommon in the 1970's. I rode the 10 Monterey frequently when growing up in the City in the 1950's, 1960's, and early 1970's and was looking forward to viewing this video. The video, however, clearly was not filmed in the 1970's.

I grew up in San Francisco in the 1950's and 1960's and frequently rode the 36 Miraloma. Judging from the passing cars and vehicles in this video, I doubt this was shot in the 1970's. The cars and vehicles are newer models from those in the 1970's. Notice that the bus never picks up or drops off any passengers.

Just by the sound of the engine and the interior rattle, you can tell it’s a New Look fishbowl. My favorite bus ever.

Where did they find that relic? All drum brake layout. The buses they have now are equipped with disc brakes.
